Worth vs. Value: The Crucial Difference

Worth and value. Two words that get confused a lot when it comes to knowing how to assert yourself.

Value is our strengths, contributions, education, experience, etc.

It is everything that gives us a unique and important role, position or offering. My value as a speaker or therapist is determined by my abilities in those roles, the education and training that I hold, the unique skills I have and the way in which I connect to those seeking what I offer.

Worth is what you get in exchange for your value.

My "worth" is what I charge for those services, or, in many cases, what I have come to accept as payment for those services.

The problem is that both of these constructs are subjective and when we struggle with knowing or asserting our value, we accept treatment, pay, and outcomes less than what we are worth. I want you to take some time and assess your true value - and for the moment, tell shame to fuck off. What do you bring to this world and to the table that is worthy of celebration and reward.

Now, how are you communicating that? Or better yet, where is the gap in your value and how others are compensating you?
