To Change or Not to Change — Getting Clear on Your Motivation
To Change or Not to Change — Getting Clear on Your Motivation
How often do we “know what we need to do” or tell ourselves we “should” do something only to get stuck pushing it off and shaming ourselves for staying where we are? Oftentimes, it is not the change itself that is hard but all of the thoughts, feelings, shame, distress, unresolved pain, etc that get in the way.
This worksheet is designed to help you focus less on the “right” answer — to do something or not — and focuses on helping you get curious about and uncover everything that you are holding on to as you think about the change. What are the reasons you want to do X and what are the reasons you don’t? What is every argument to keep things as they are and what is every argument to go?
The goal is not to make the list from a place of judgment but from curiosity and possibility so that you can be honest with yourself about where you stand, where you want to go and what you need to get there.

As a therapist, my goal is to make the concepts, tools and ideas shared and discussed in therapy more accessible for people in and outside of the therapy room so I want to do what I can to help get these tools into the hands of the people that need and want them.
